FAYETTE, Mo. - The Central Methodist University men's soccer team finished its season with a bang Tuesday night in a dominating 7-1 win over Culver-Stockton College.
Culver-Stockton scored the first goal, just more than 10 minutes into the match, on a penalty kick after a CMU player was called for a foul in the box. From there, it was all Central Methodist. The Eagles tied the score at one when freshman Thyago Catharino (Sao Paulo, Brazil) connected on a direct kick in the 18th minute. CMU's lone senior Brandon Ousley (Jefferson City, Mo.), who was honored for Senior Night before the match, scored the next two goals for the Eagles in the 30th and 38th minutes on assists from juniors Rob Humphrey (St. Charles, Mo.) and Pat McVey (St. Charles, Mo.). McVey added a goal in the 41st minute off a pass from Ousley to give Central Methodist a 4-1 lead at halftime.
The Eagles continued to dominate in the second half as Catharino scored two more goals to get a hat trick, and Humphrey accounted for the other CMU goal. McVey, Ousley, Catharino, sophomore Andrew Cline (Kansas City, Mo.) and junior Scott Alvino (St. Louis, Mo.) each added assists in the second half.
Central Methodist finished its season with a 7-9-2 record overall. Six of the Eagles' nine losses came by a one-goal margin this season. Catharino's three goals Tuesday gave him a team-high 16 on the season, while McVey led the team with eight assists.

| Moker Quoted in New York Times |
Moker alumnus C. Fred Bergsten was quoted in a recent New York Times article on the effects of rising oil prices on global business.
Current actives and recent visitors to campus are more familiar with Brother Bergsten as a major contributor to Central Methodist University, perhaps having eaten a meal or two in the dining hall that bears his name.

| CMU Campus Community Completes Successful Blood Drive |
|
November 1, 2007
FAYETTE, Mo. – The Central Methodist University campus community completed a successful blood drive Oct. 29 by collecting 36 productive units of blood for the American Red Cross Missouri-Illinois Blood Services Region.
Salum Stutzer of the CMU Office of Student Development said that the blood drive included 12 first-time donors and that 46 persons showed up to offer blood donations. A goal of 35 productive units of blood had been set.
The drive was coordinated by the Office of Student Development and the “Mokers,” the Alpha Phi Gamma social fraternity.
Founded in 1854, Central Methodist is the only United Methodist Church-related university in Missouri, and welcomes qualified men and women of all faiths and from diverse backgrounds. Its wooded, historic campus hosts a faculty of teachers, mentors, and scholars dedicated to providing extraordinary attention to the individual learner. With offerings ranging from high-school dual credit to graduate studies and a total enrollment of more than 3,000, its liberal arts and pre-professional programs are centered on a character core that has twice brought Central Methodist national recognition for its leadership in character education. In recent years the University has attracted significant challenge grants from the national Kresge and Mabee Foundations to help build a $15 million Student and Community Center on the academic quadrangle and to fund $5 million in major upgrades to its athletic facilities.
